Gas Barrier and Bird Infestation Control Service Covering Plymouth, Devon & Cornwall

Containment Gas Barriers

Certain gases like methane and carbon dioxide occur naturally via a process called biodegradation. This process only happens with of biodegradable waste such as vegetation and peat. However, man most commonly makes these gases. Landfill tip sites contain organic material waste and are responsible for causing contaminated land. Some contaminated land can be classified as in the form of Volatile Organic Compounds or VOC’s. This is when certain areas have been used in the past for specialized industrial activities such as dry cleaning or breweries.

To achieve a form of protection from these contaminated gases we must use some method of venting them or a venting system, we can also use a gas barrier or both methods working together. A venting system can reduce and thin down the gases to more acceptable levels or it can be used to provide a path of minimal resistance so as redirecting the gasses away from a property or area to a suitable location where it can be released safely into the atmosphere.

Here at Plymouth Damp Proofing (PDP) have a team of professional engineers who possess the knowledge and experience to install a variety of gas barriers on new builds to either residential or commercial to protect from naturally occurring radioactive gas or Radon.

A membrane gas barrier is a physical barrier against migration into a building. To ensure the system will work correctly the materials used in the installation needs to be certified for use for the specific gas being barred. A specialist who has the necessary training and experience must install it to ensure a complete seal is formed across the total footprint of the area being protected.
